A Note From

Rev. Joe Koyickal

A Note from Deacon Denny

Someone once said “don’t sweat the small stuff, and it’s all small stuff.” That may be true, but there are times when the “small stuff” piles up on us and we miss so much of the abundant life that God intended for us. We have laser-focus on certain fleeting moments of our daily routines, never realizing the beauty and majesty of the “real small stuff.”  Sure, we see the super sunsets, the clouds decorating the skies. We hear the joyful shouts of youngsters at play or a baby’s cry and coo.  These things are just passing moments.

Recently, our pastor thanked folks at the end of Mass for their ministries.  There was applause and smiles as he did so.  It is great to have folks step up and share their talents with us. May God bless them!  St. John Paul II once asked: “shouldn’t we have a standing ovation when the host and the cup are raised to heaven?” It makes perfect sense to affirm those who help enhance our worship time. Maybe our focus is just a bit skewed, though.  The coolest event in our lives is that moment when God sends his angel to provide for us the greatest banquet we could ever experience. The Real Presence of Christ himself is MOST important. How do we react during the Consecration? Is it just another stop along the way to the end of Mass? This is the moment when heaven is wed to earth, the moment for which we should be waiting.

Our attitude, our prayer, our whole physical being needs to be involved to connect to our Lord at this time. Our example will also go a long way to guide our young church to the understanding of the sum and substance that the Eucharist is. Let’s ask the Spirit to guide us to a greater reverence for the Eucharist.    Amen?

Then Jesus said, Come to me all of you are weary and carry heavy burdens and I will give you rest.

-Matthew 11:28
